Summer is upon us, as are the annoying mosquitoes. To combat their hateful bites, we often don’t notice that we throw substances into the air that are harmful to our body. In this article, I want to give you some tips to keep mosquitoes away, through 100% natural methods.

If I say mosquitoes, what is the first word that comes to your mind? Insecticide.  Or, itching and irritation, or the annoying noise they make when you just want to sleep. Either way, the need to ward off mosquitoes dominates your mood. It is tempting to use insecticides, mosquito repellent sprays, repellent creams, and citronella candles.

June is the month in which you will have to make a choice: decide to bring out your paraphernalia of chemical weapons or start looking for alternative solutions, call Melbourne Pest Control especially if you have children. You want to prevent them from inhaling toxic substances, right?

1 Keep mosquitoes away by using essential oils

The smell of some essential oils is so annoying to mosquitoes that it has the power to keep them away. The most effective, in this sense, are the essential oils of lavender, lemon, lemongrass, and geranium. The smells emanating from these oils can disorient mosquitoes which, as soon as they sense it, lose control and, annoyed, go away.

I suggest you dilute a few drops of essential oil with a little water. Put the mixture obtained in small glass jars – if you do not have an air freshener available –  and dip some toothpicks into the liquid, then turn them upside down. In this way, the smell will spread more strongly in the environment and, in addition to scenting the house, it will keep mosquitoes away.

2 Lemon and vinegar to ward off mosquitoes

Among the strong smells, capable of keeping mosquitoes away, we must mention vinegar and lemon. These two substances have the same repellent effect as essential oils, but unlike these, vinegar is not exactly an air freshener, quite the contrary.

In this regard, I recommend that you fill some containers with water and vinegar, and place them on your windowsill. Pay attention to the position: none of the containers must be positioned towards the inside. Otherwise, the smell will spread around the room and could be annoying.

3 Welcome plants, goodbye mosquitoes

A simple and effective way to get rid of mosquitoes is to have aromatic plants at home that spread their smell directly from their leaves. Take advantage of the summer to buy your new plants and make your home more cheerful, colourful and, of course, mosquito-proof.

In particular, the plants that can most help you keep these annoying insects away are geranium, mint, lavender, garlic and basil.

Arrange your plants according to their use: plants that can also be used for cooking, such as basil, mint and garlic will go to the kitchen. These plants, in addition to helping you like an insect repellent, are also very beautiful to look at, but also to eat, in your favourite dishes.

On the windowsill, in the living room or the children’s room, plant geraniums, they are beautiful, they effectively keep mosquitoes away and do not require special care. Just a little water from time to time.

The anti-mosquito use of lemongrass is quite well known. This plant keeps insects away thanks to its pungent smell. I love the smell of it and, after reading about its many properties, I decided to buy one for my office. The only thing necessary is that it gets sun for many hours a day. Not only does it keep mosquitoes away, but it contributes to my well-being. I invite you to try it.

4 An infusion of mint and basil as a mosquito repellent for the body

Do you want to know how to make an anti-mosquito product for the body in a nutshell? Get 2 bunches of basil and one of mint, remove any roots, and boil in a saucepan for about twenty minutes. Once the infusion has cooled, filter it and place it in the fridge in a spray bottle.

Every evening, at sunset,  sprinkle your legs and arms with this scented liquid and say hello to mosquitoes from afar. They will not have the courage to approach, and you will be ready to enjoy the fresh evening air on the balcony of the house.

5 DIY lemongrass candles and hello mosquitoes!

Recover some wax by melting old candles. You’re sure to have some. Get wicks and wick holders, a glass jam jar, and oil bottle caps. To repel mosquitoes, use essential oils of geranium, lemongrass, and lavender.

Pour the wax into the containers, holding the wick in the centre of the candle you are creating.

Tip: To keep the wick straight, tie the top end to a skewer that you will rest on the edges of the jar. So be careful not to cut the wick too short.

Let it cool down and use candles against pesky mosquitoes. You will keep them away. At least until the candle goes out.

Choose natural remedies for mosquitoes

If you have some time, feel free to experiment with my tips. If, on the other hand, you go a little more in a hurry, I advise you, you can call us for mosquito pest control or in any case, to avoid chemical anti-mosquitoes, and choose to keep them away in a natural way, respecting yourself and your loved ones.

Ecocose has selected, for you,  totally natural, eco-friendly and eco-friendly anti-mosquito repellents.
