If you are a first-time parent, then chances are you are just trying to learn about everything when it comes to taking care of your baby. There are plenty of articles out there that talk about feeding your baby the right types of food, how to help them sleep at night, but definitely not a lot talks about the right ways to wash your baby’s clothing.

Today, we will talk about how you should really wash your baby’s clothes. This will help ensure that your baby would be able to use the baby clothes in Phoenix that you’d be buying for them!

Sanitize your Hands

When handling your baby’s clothes, it would be best to wash your hands beforehand. Your hands can be a source of bacteria, and you definitely would not want this to even touch your baby’s skin.

Simply disinfect your hands with soap and water before handling your kid’s clothes. You can also use a pair of clean gloves if you want to be extra careful.

Choose the Right Detergent

Certain detergents can cause allergic reactions and rashes on your baby’s skin due to the harsh chemicals that are in it. A newborn’s skin is extra delicate, which means that you have to be careful with everything that you are using both on their skin and the clothes that they are using.

There are lots of detergents in the market that you can buy to wash your baby’s clothes – just make sure that they are made specifically for babies’ skin so you wouldn’t have to worry about your kid getting a rash or allergic reaction.

Handwashing is Always Better

You can wash your baby’s clothes in the washing machine, but handwashing it is actually way better. This way, you can properly scrub your baby’s clothes and get rid of the stains that wouldn’t normally go away by washing them in a washing machine.

Additionally, you also run the risk of ruining or tearing your baby’s clothes in the washing machine. These pieces are usually thin and are very small, and some might not be able to withstand the power of the machine. Always choose to handwash so you can control the scrubbing.

Soak and Scrape

Baby clothes are usually stained with milk, saliva, vomit, and the likes. To ensure that you will get rid of these, you’d have to soak it beforehand to soften the stain. This will make it easier for you to scrub it out once you handwash it.

Soaking it in warm water for 30 minutes can also help with getting rid of the bacteria present in these clothes. Make sure that you will use warm and not hot water, as extremely hot or boiling water can alter or shrink your baby’s clothes.

Always wash your baby’s clothes before you wash yours. This way, you wouldn’t transfer the bacteria on your clothes to your newborn’s. Avoid using fabric softener, as this might also be too harsh for your baby’s delicate skin. Consider drying the clothes in the sunlight until they are a hundred percent dry.
