Looking for something to do? Well, we have the perfect competition for you to enter. The only requirement is that you have a hubby (or a fictional one). But what could it be? It’s the Husband Calling competition of course!
The Iowa State Fair is home to this unique contest and this unique event is as simple as it sounds. All you have to do is get up on stage, stand by the microphone and present to the audience your best ‘husband call’.
Women of all ages from all over the state come to compete in Des Moines. Each lady screams at their hypothetical husbands to demonstrate how they would get their attention.

But the Husband Calling competition isn’t a walk in the park
According to judge Myrna Nelson, “It was hard to judge”.
You have, you know, three things you have to judge: your first impression, your last impression and the presentation.
In 2017, 89-year-old Bonnie Swalwell Eilert snatched the gold. Her performance was utterly hilarious, we’ve all met an old woman like her!

When I first started, my husband said to me, ‘You’re not going to do that Bonnie. You’re not. Oh, please don’t, I said I’m going to do it. I defied him and I won first. So after that, he’s gung-ho for me.
But panic over, the competition isn’t just for wives – kids can take part too
That’s right, the contest also holds a “Mom Calling” competition for kids to try and deliver the best “mom call” possible.
This certainly is a competition I would love to witness in person! If you’re ever at the Iowa State Fair, get down to the Husband Calling competition immediately!
