In a story that sounds like it could be the plot of the next big movie, Rich Bishop did everything he could to win back his girlfriend who received amnesia after succumbing to a set terrifying seizures during a train ride. Located in London, Jessica Sharman had experienced seizures due to epilepsy since the age of fourteen. Now twenty years old, Jessica would still experience these intense seizures during times of stress.
After experiencing the particularly bad seizures while on the train with her boyfriend, Jessica could no longer remember anything about the people around her and had been diagnosed with amnesia by London doctors. Rich, who was twenty-five at the time, was devastated along with Jessica’s family upon hearing the news of Jessica’s amnesia. When Rich went to comfort Jessica in the hospital, she could not stand him and did not want him around.
“I didn’t know him but he was acting like we were in love,” Jessica explained.
Rich was not the only loved one to suffer, though, and Jessica received her parents more or less the same, being distant since she felt nothing more for them than any other stranger. Jessica’s mom even had to show her photos of the two together so she would actually believe that they knew each other.
“I’ve been told my body went limp and my eyes glazed over. I recall seeing a woman running towards me but I had no idea who she was. She kept saying she was my mum…Mum put a hand on me but I pushed it off. It felt weird being touched by a stranger,” Jessica said.
Following this amnesia and her newfound feelings towards the people she once loved, Jessica officially broke things off with Rich just two weeks after being discharged from the London hospital. Heartbroken, Rich was not willing to let their love end right there, and he promised he would do whatever it took to remind Jessica why they once loved each other.
“He looked so hurt and promised he would help me remember how great we were together. I don’t remember the first time I fell in love with Rich, but I do remember the second…It’s hard to explain losing nineteen years’ experience, and doctors say I may never get these [memories] back,” Jessica explained.
Doctors have given Jessica’s recurrence, or the likelihood of her regaining her old memories, at just fifty percent. This means Jessica may never receive her old memories back, but lucky for Rich, his persistence paid off and he proved that the pair truly did love one and other.
