A Beginners Guide to Installing Game Mods on PC

In 2019 almost 70% of gamers decided to install a mod to their game and use it. In 2020 the number will be even higher due to one reason only. Mods make any game better. They can eliminate bugs, add new features and new levels. As such you can deduce why the mods are so appealing and so desirable. However, every beginner has the same problem. How he or she can install a mod for the first time and use it. Yes, it is an easy process that requires a few seconds, but we will still have to provide a guide. The guide works for all mods available at sites such as Zettamods.

Installing patch-based mods

The first type and actually a more common type of mods, in general, are patches. A mod you are using or planning to install may come with a different name, but it will be in .exe file format. This is a good thing. Those files work as tiny software therefore they can be installed as any other software.

To install the mod of this type, click 2 times on the main icon and follow the instructions of the installation wizard. In most cases, you will have to locate the folder of the game and install the mod there. Keep in mind that all mods work with the game, hence they must be installed in the same folder and they must be linked to the game. After you have selected the folder, complete the installation and start the game.

At this moment, we can add that the mods available in patch form are more advanced and usually come with more features. They are still purpose developed for that very game and they won’t work if installed in a separate folder or they are installed on a different partition. They are called patch mods but you can distinguish them by looking at the file format type. This process refers to all mods with .exe extension (for Windows computers). Last but not least is the fact you can install multiple mods in the same way and for the same game. They will work at the same time and they will be compatible.

Installing mods by copying content to the game’s folder

The second type of mods is also easy to install but a bit different than the first type. In a nutshell, the two types are almost the same. They have the same purpose and the installation can be categorized as manual or automatic. The first type is automatic installation because the software will do all the hard work instead of you. This type, the second on our list is manual installation. Here is what you have to do.

  1. Download the mod
  2. Extract the files to a single folder
  3. Copy the files (not the folder)
  4. Go to the data folder of the game
  5. Paste and replace as needed
  6. Play a game

As you can see the process is the same, but you will have to manually copy and paste the files to the desired folder. A patch tool will do this instead of you, but when there is no exe file, you will have to do it manually. Mods with this installation are more common and they come in various sizes and with various features, but all of them have the same goal.

The final word

This guide can help you install literally any mod you like and need to any game you want to play. It is a super-easy process that can boost the game appeal and make it even better.
