Mannequins come in all shapes and sizes, and for good reason: they’re supposed to capture the ever-varying human form all while modeling eye-catching outfits.
Yet, somehow, there are some mannequins that are maybe a little too real—or too outlandish and oddly terrifying—to get their job done effectively. With odd positions or inhuman proportions, they inspire more questions than they do consumer confidence.
These 16 mannequins may not send you home with a new blouse or jacket, but they’ll definitely make an impression!
1. This plastic model has the tell-tale body language of a kid being dragged to the store by her mom. Believe it or not, the appearance of total, rock-bottom depression from a mannequin doesn’t exactly scream, “Buy this outfit!”

2. Talk about a pain in the neck! This mannequin really has a Frankenstein’s monster vibe to it, no? You have to assume this ungodly chimaera would be chased by a pitchfork-wielding mob were it real.

3. Ignoring, for a moment, the feather hat that wouldn’t be out of place on a coat rack in a haunted attic, this mannequin asks a lot of questions. Why is that neck so long? What happened to the torso? Where else can you find clothes for a body type this unique?

4. What’s the deal with this pose? Who wants to know how something would look on them when they’re aggressively hunched over like they’re scratching a bug bite on their leg? There’s something off about the placement of that base mirror, too…
